Dangerous Waters

DANGEROUS WATERS. Dangerous Waters is a design for a public square on the Tel Aviv beachfront which addresses the relationship between limited water resources and territorial competition.

A subterranean water cistern has a regular inflow from an on-site desalination unit, which feeds to a grid of allotments at the top of the public square. Changes in water use through daily/seasonal cycles reflects terrain transformations affecting the habitability of the pubic square. Activities in the square; cafe, open air theater, private benches – begin to form spatial boundaries which shrink, grow, and compete over four commodities: space, comfort, view, and privacy.
